Cloudy headlight lens in San Antonio daylight

Notes from the studio

Hazy headlights in the San Antonio sun

A yellow lens is usually oxidized plastic, not dirt. Washing removes film. It does not make a burned lens clear again.

Film versus oxidation

Road film and hard water on the lens come off during an exterior detail. The plastic underneath, if it has turned yellow from years of sun on a Schertz or 78233 driveway, does not. We will not call a wash a headlight restoration.

If the lens is only spotted, the same visit that handles water spots on the paint handles the lamp. If the plastic is rough to the touch, that is beyond a detail.

What we will say

Look at the lamp in daylight before you book a correction on the paint and assume the lights are included. Paint correction polishes clear coat. It is not a sanding job on a headlight. If you need the lens restored, that is a different trade. We would rather tell you than polish a panel and leave you expecting new lamps.

The rest of the nose — bumper, glass, and hood — is still part of the exterior visit. Glass haze is windshield film, not a yellow lens.

Film on the lens versus burned plastic

Road film and hard water on a headlight come off during an exterior detail. Plastic that has turned yellow and rough from years of sun does not. We will not call a wash a headlight restoration, and paint correction does not sand a lens. If you need the plastic restored, that is a different trade.

Look at the lamp in daylight before you assume the lights are included in a paint correction. Spotted but smooth is a wash. Yellow and rough is not. The rest of the nose, including the glass and the hood, can still be part of the exterior visit.

Twenty percent of the quoted total covers the work we actually do, not a restoration we do not offer. Spotted and smooth can be cleaned. Yellow and rough to the touch cannot, and we will say which one we see.
