What paint correction is, and is not
Swirl mark removal is machine polishing. Wash scratches, buffer trails from a tunnel, and the haze you see in sunlight on dark paint live in the clear coat. Polishing levels that layer enough to make the defects less visible. It is not a respray, and it cannot fill a chip down to metal or a crease through the clear. If the mark is already through the clear coat, read when a scratch is too deep to polish. Scratch removal auto work is judged one panel at a time. A light, isolated mark may improve. A key scratch that has caught a fingernail may only soften. We inspect and tell you the likely result before we commit the time. If the clear is already thin, we stop. Cutting through clear to chase a photo is how paint gets ruined.
The process
Correction starts where an exterior detail starts: wash, wheels, and chemical or mechanical decontamination so we are not polishing dirt. Then a test spot. The test spot decides whether the vehicle needs a lighter polish or a heavier cut, and whether some panels should be left alone. Paint polishing in San Antonio sun also means we watch panel temperature. Hot hoods do not get rushed. Once paint defect removal is complete, the clear coat is exposed. Protecting corrected paint with ceramic coating is how we lock in that gloss. A sealant is the shorter step. Coating on uncorrected paint locks the swirls in place. We will not pretend otherwise.
- Wash and decontamination before any pad touches paint
- Test spot to set expectations
- Swirl and haze reduction within clear-coat limits
- Honest stop-point on thin or repainted panels
- Protection recommended after the polish
Who asks for correction in 78233
Black and dark gray vehicles that park outside along the northeast side show swirls first. So do trucks that get wiped down at the job site. Paint correction San Antonio searches often come from people who already tried a wax and were disappointed. Wax cannot remove a scratch. Polish can improve one. Pricing follows vehicle size, paint hardness, and how many stages the test spot justifies. There is no honest one-number menu. The booking slot is held with a 20% non-refundable deposit of the quoted total.

Clear coat, color, and sunlight
Dark colors show swirls because they show everything. Silver hides more than black and still holograms if the polish and the light are wrong. Paint correction in San Antonio is judged outside, in the sun, not under a single shop bulb that flatters the hood. If you can only see the problem at 2 p.m. on the driver’s door, that is the panel the test spot should respect. Repaints and blended panels are common on vehicles that have lived in this city for a decade. Body shop clear does not always polish like factory clear. We treat those panels carefully and we will skip a panel rather than burn an edge. If a previous detailer already cut the clear thin, more correction is not a favor.
Scratch removal has a physical limit. If your fingernail catches, the mark is likely deeper than a polish can erase. We can often soften the eye’s read of it. We cannot promise it will vanish. That sentence is part of the quote, not a footnote after you have paid. Protection after correction is not optional if you want the result to last the month. A dry towel from a gas station will put a portion of the swirls back. We will show you a wash approach that does not undo the day. The longer note is caring for paint after correction. If you want that protection to be a coating, we schedule it as its own scope with its own deposit calculation on the combined quote.
Understand your paint
This page is the appointment. The notes below answer the questions that usually come before one. A full detail cleans. Correction polishes. A coating protects. They are not the same visit unless the quote says so.
Understand how paint correction works. The usual cobweb pattern is swirl marks from car washes. The stop-point is when a scratch may be too deep to polish. Spots from dried water are a separate diagnosis: water deposits versus etching. A wash may lift a deposit. Only an assessed etch belongs in a correction conversation.
Whether a new car needs correction is not an automatic yes. When both steps are in one visit, the order is correction before ceramic coating. A coating does not hide swirls. Clay pulls bonded grit. It is not a polish: what a clay bar does. A wash without machine polishing is exterior detailing. Cabin plus exterior, still without a polish unless it is quoted, is full detailing.
The quote is not a menu. What changes a paint correction quote is the factor list, with no dollar figure. Polishing versus waxing is why a wax will not do this job. How long paint correction takes is why there is no clock time on the site. How to choose a paint correction detailer is a question list, not a ranking. After the polish, caring for corrected paint is how a dry towel puts marks back.
