How to wash a ceramic-coated car and reduce swirl marks

A ceramic-coated car is washed to remove dirt, not to renew the coating. Careful washing lowers the chance of new swirl marks. It does not guarantee the finish will never be scratched.

Follow the installed coating's care instructions

Coatings are not one product. Cure time, the first wash, and which shampoo is allowed come from the product that was installed. This guide does not assign a universal cure period. If you were not given a wait time, call and ask which product was used before you choose a chemical.

A coating is not scratch-proof. Brushes and grit still mark clear coat. Maintenance is clean water, a compatible shampoo, and clean towels. Polishing is not a Saturday wash. The install itself is ceramic coating services in San Antonio.

The two-bucket wash

Rinse loose dust first. One bucket holds shampoo. The other is rinse water for the mitt. Wash a small section, rinse the mitt until it releases the dirt, then reload from the shampoo bucket. Work from the top down so rocker-panel grit stays off the hood.

Use a different mitt for wheels, and do not reload it from the paint bucket. If the wheels need more than soap, book exterior detailing instead of experimenting in the driveway.

  • Rinse loose dirt before the mitt touches paint
  • Rinse the mitt after each section
  • Keep wheel tools out of the paint bucket
  • Dry with clean towels before water bakes on
  • Stop if rings or rough spots remain

Drying, and when to stop

Many swirls blamed on washing are towel marks. Dry with a clean towel. A towel that cleaned door jambs is not a hood towel. Use a drying aid only if the coating instructions allow it. That comparison is ceramic coating versus wax.

If spots remain after a gentle wash, do not polish them at home. Read water spots on car paint. The shorter studio note is washing a coated car.

Where the wash happens if you do not do it

Book the studio when water no longer releases, when film remains after a careful wash, or when new swirls show in sunlight. Come in before you clay or polish a coated car. The address is 11692 Bricken Circle, San Antonio, TX 78233. Owners from Converse bring the vehicle. There is no driveway service. See the Northeast San Antonio studio page.

Schedule exterior maintenance or call (210) 201-4847. A 20% non-refundable deposit of the quoted total holds the slot. Hours are Tuesday through Sunday, 7:00 AM to 11:00 PM. Monday is closed.

One wash habit that matters

Use a car shampoo and a clean mitt, and dry the panel before hard water sits in the sun. A tunnel brush is the usual way swirls show up on a coated car. If the coating was installed over swirls, no wash will hide them. Call (210) 201-4847 if the finish looks tired and you want the studio to look before another product goes on. 11692 Bricken Circle. Tuesday through Sunday, 7:00 AM to 11:00 PM. Monday is closed.
